Why Love Your Neighborhood?

What if our neighborhoods became places where someone could taste and see that the Lord is good?

As followers of Jesus, we are learning to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did for others. Our discipleship isn’t confined to church—it flows into our homes, workplaces, schools, friendships, families, and neighborhoods. That’s the heart behind Love Your NEIGHBORhood.

As a way of life, we’re practicing what it looks like to live on mission in ordinary life—not by treating people like projects or forcing spiritual conversations, but by learning to love, listen, welcome, pray, and pay attention to the people God has already placed around us.

Putting Into Practice: Halloween

Halloween gives us a simple opportunity to begin. As people come to our doors, we want to intentionally make room for relationships. Here are four simple steps:

1. Pray — Take a weekly prayer walk through your neighborhood and ask the Holy Spirit to help you see your neighbors through Jesus’ eyes.

2. Meet someone — Introduce yourself to at least two neighbors. Learn their names, be curious, and begin building a relationship.

3. Practice hospitality — Create an intentional space for trick-or-treating that is generous, welcoming, and fun. Go beyond the candy bowl and create an environment where people feel invited to linger.

4. Follow up — Choose at least one person you meet and take a next step in the relationship—a conversation outside, a coffee, or an invitation into your home.

We’re not trying to accomplish everything in one night. We’re learning a way of life—one ordinary relationship at a time. Start praying. Start noticing. Start making room for people.

Let’s learn to live in such a way that our neighbors can taste and see that the Lord is good.
